Affinity Credit Union
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Traci Wasylenko became a member of UFCW Canada Local 1400 in 1994 when she began her career at Affinity Credit Union in Saskatoon where she works as a Loans Officer.

She has represented her fellow workers as a Shop Steward for the past ten years at her workplace location. Her first labour education course other than steward training was Occupational Health and Safety training.

Since then she has taken a number of courses through Prairie School for Union Women and Spring School and states that “more union education has brought more interest.”

The interest garnered has served her fellow members well as she has been a member of the Joint Labour Management Committee where she helps to resolve issues in the workplace before they snowball. She was elected to her local union’s Executive Board in 2006, and has also been an elected member of her workplace Occupational Health and Safety Committee since 2009; both positions bringing her fellow members’ voices to the table.

Traci has taken part in two organizing campaigns that have been held with the Affinity Group workers in Saskatchewan as the credit unions grow and merge; taking the opportunity to speak to potential new members about the importance the union has in her workplace, and how she believes UFCW Canada can help her fellow workers.

The care and concern Traci has for others comes naturally to her and is apparent in other areas of her life as well.  For over sixteen years she has been a Reservist with the Department of National Defence and is a mother of two children and two stepchildren.

Expanding on her love of the outdoors and rapport with children has opened another door for Traci. For the past three years she has volunteered as a camp counselor at the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) Youth Camp.
