On Thursday, May 13, UFCW Canada, along with migrant workers, and community, academic, and labour allies will host Education Has No Borders. This Toronto celebration is the launch of a new set of national, regional and local education-based initiatives to empower migrant workers and immigrant communities.

“UFCW Canada has a strong historical commitment to equal access to education, says Naveen Mehta, UFCW Canada’s director of Human Rights, Equity and Diversity. “Building on that, we are proud to be launching a variety of innovative educational tools and resources to empower  migrant workers, and to bring their fight into the mainstream.”

Education Has No Borders will feature:

·        Details of a new UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarship program with 5 scholarships of $1,000 each;

·        WebCampus demonstrations with special courses for and about migrant and immigrant workers;

·        The national launch of Students Against Migrant Exploitation and the UFCW Canada Academic Support Network;

·        the launch of a new blog on migrant and immigration issues in partnership with the law firm of Long Mangalji, LLP on the UFCW Canada social justice website;

·        And cultural performances, live painting, spoken word poetry, live art, music and video presentations.

All are welcome to this casual and friendly event to join with sisters and brothers in the struggle and to celebrate the empowerment of education and our shared strength when we work together.
