White House appoints President Hansen to Advisory Committee

UFCW International President Joe Hansen has been appointed to the United States Trade Representatives Advisory Committee for Trade Policy by the White House.

“I am so honored to accept this appointment,” says Brother Hansen. “Food and meat industry representatives have long served on the Advisory Committee, and I want to express my appreciation to President Obama and Ambassador Ron Kirk for nominating me as representative of workers in these industries.”

As the Advisory Committee’s newest member, Brother Hansen will be fully committed to fighting for trade policies that contribute to the improvement of working, living and environmental standards for workers and their families.

“Joe has spent his whole life defending the interests of workers, and many years negotiating with multi-national meatpacking, food processing, and grocery companies, so he is the ideal candidate to help develop a new trading standard for the future that doesn’t leave working families left behind,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley. “The members of UFCW Canada congratulate President Hansen on being appointed to the Advisory Committee, and for accepting yet another responsibility on behalf of workers and their communities.”
