BDM Union Scholarship Winners Update!

UFCW Canada activists and family members from every region in the country are receiving $1,000 BDM Union Scholarship awards just in time for the 2011 school year. The Beggs – Dowling – Mathieu (BDM) Scholarship was established by the UFCW Canada National Council over 20 years ago to assist members and their families with the ever-growing cost of post-secondary education.

Pictured is James Horsman, one of 18 scholarship winners for the 2010 year, being congratulated by UFCW Canada Local 1400 Secretary-Treasurer Darren Kurmey. In addition to working for the Affinity Credit Union in Saskatoon, Brother Horsman attends the University of Saskatchewan where he is completing the Accounting program at the Edwards School of Business.

Also pictured is Keven Giroux Madore, who is the son of Metro worker and UFCW Canada Local 503 member Alain Madore. Keven – pictured with Local 503 President Steeve Bégin and Secretary-Treasurer Martin Daudelin – is enrolled in the Nursing Assistant program at CDI College.

Applications for the 2011 BDM Union Scholarship are now open and UFCW Canada members and their children are welcome to apply online. UFCW Canada members who are also post-secondary students are also encouraged to apply for the UFCW International Scholarship (until the March 31, 2011 deadline).
