Registration opens for acclaimed Prairie School for Union Women

A newly released study confirms what Sisters who have attended already know: that the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour’s Prairie School for Union Women (PSUW) provides important benefits to the working women of the province. The study was conducted by University of Regina faculty member, Dr. Cindy Hanson.

“The Prairie School for Union Women is truly unique in its approach to education for women, as it not only provides education, but also facilitates the development of important skills and confidence," writes Dr. Hanson. "The study shows, among other things, that the School is extremely effective in its approach and that it has a positive effect on the lives of working women in Saskatchewan.”

The annual Prairie School for Union Women was founded in 1977. Each June it provides four days of intensive learning and sharing for trade union women from across Canada in a supportive environment. The courses offered provide over 20 hours of instruction in various union and social justice topics.

This year's school runs from June 10-14, in Waskesiu Lake, Saskatchewan. A Scholarship Fund is available to encourage women from equity-seeking groups and from non-unionized work settings to attend. Childcare is also available.
