Duck farm newest Quebec agriculture unit

Workers at a specialized poultry operation near Marieville, Québec have become the newest UFCW Canada Local 501 agriculture bargaining unit. The new members work at a duck farm operated by La Ferme Palmex  — a Québec company that specializes in the breeding, production and processing of ducks for the domestic and international gourmet food market.

This is the second new agriculture bargaining unit successfully organized by Local 501 in as many months, and the ninth UFCW Canada agriculture bargaining unit certified in Quebec. "We thank the new members for their solidarity and commitment," says UFCW Canada Local 501 President Alain Lachaîne. "Agriculture workers need a strong voice to protect their rights and their safety, and we are there for them."

Applications for certification at three other Québec agriculture employers are currently awaiting a decision by the Superior Court of Québec.
