Members at Cométal achieve new contract – UFCW 509

Saint-Romuald, Que. – August 23, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 509 is proud to announce that a new four-year collective agreement has been reached on behalf of all members working at Cométal in Saint-Romuald, Quebec. The employees manufacture architectural and mechanical equipment at a plant located just outside of Quebec City. 

As part of the newly-ratified agreement, workers will receive increased employer contributions to their group insurance plan, an extra $15.00for the purchase of safety boots, and a $1.50 per hour increase in the yard repair premium. Wages will increase by 2 percent every year for employees at the top of the salary scale, and the night shift premium increases from $0.40 to $0.50 per hour worked. The contract also introduces a $3.00 per hour lead hand premium.

"This second collective agreement for the Cométal workers clearly shows the importance of collective bargaining," says UFCW Canada Local 509 President Daniel Nadeau.
