Workers at Metro Plus Vaudreuil achieve first contract – UFCW 500

Vaudreuil, Que. – August 28, 2014 – Workers at the brand new Metro Plus grocery store in Vaudreuil, Quebec recently ratified their first collective agreement as members of UFCW Canada Local 500. The three-year union contract will be valid until July 20, 2017.

With respect to compensation, the new collective agreement provides significant wage increases every three months or every 650 hours worked, as well as a 2 percent signing bonus retroactive to the contract's ratification date. The Metro Plus employees will also receive a night shift premium of $0.80 per hour, a "master butcher" bonus of $1.00 per hour, and a performance bonus that is based on the sales of the store.

In addition, the newly ratified agreement creates two new regular positions, provides up to four weeks of paid vacation after 10 years of continuous service, and contains generous provisions regarding paid bereavement and sick leave.

Starting January 1, 2015, the Metro Plus workers will be enrolled in a group insurance plan that is equally funded by employees and the company, and the workers will also participate in the UFCW Dental Plan for members in Quebec, which will be paid for entirely by the employer.

"We are very proud of this first collective agreement for the members at Metro Plus Vaudreuil, who have created a solid foundation on which they will be able to build their solidarity going forward," says UFCW Canada Local 500 President Antonio Filato.
