Super 8 hotel workers in Lachenaie join UFCW 500

Montreal – October 6, 2014 – Members working at the Super 8 Lachenaie have been certified as a UFCW Canada Local 501 bargaining unit by the Quebec Labour Relations Board, after a majority of the workers said “yes” to joining the union.

The new bargaining unit includes reception, maintenance and laundry staff, as well as a lifeguard and a security guard.

The members at the Super 8 Lachenaie in Terrebonne are now be part of the largest food and commercial workers union in Quebec, joining the tens of thousands of  UFCW members in Canada’s hotel sector.

“I want to personally welcome our new Local 501 members,” said Alain Lachaîne, President of UFCW Canada Local 501. “We are honoured by your trust and will do whatever we can to support you and represent you in the workplace.”
