Workers at Provigo Baie-Comeau join the union – UFCW 503Baie-Comeau, Que. – November 1, 2014 – Workers at Alimentation Jacques Nadeau Inc. (Provigo) in Baie-Comeau, Quebec are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 503 after voting to join the union earlier this year. An application for certification was filed by the union on August 4 and approved by the Quebec Labour Relations Commission on October 8.

The Provigo employees cited UFCW Canada's expertise in representing hundreds of thousands of grocery store workers throughout the country as their main reason for joining the union. In Quebec, UFCW Canada Local Unions represent over 170,000 workers in grocery stores across the province. 

"We are very pleased and proud to welcome the new Provigo members in Baie-Comeau, who have chosen to partner with Canada's leading food and retail union," says UFCW Canada Local 503 President Louise Lefebvre. "By joining UFCW Canada, the Provigo members have ensured that they will receive the best representation possible in order to uphold and defend their rights in the workplace," Sister Lefebvre adds.
