Ottawa – November 24, 2014 – Members, staff, and leaders from UFCW Canada's Local Unions and National Office recently gathered in Ottawa, Ontario to participate in an intensive training session delivered by the Broadbent Institute, Canada's leading think tank devoted to achieving progressive change.

Dubbed "Camp Progress," the session was aimed at helping UFCW Canada activists hone their organizing and election campaign skills in order to effectively mobilize members for the 2015 Federal Election.

The training session consisted of a series of presentations and collaborative workshops and was led by the Broadbent Institute's Director of Training and Leadership, Graham Mitchell. Mitchell is an experienced organizer and strategist who has worked on a number of progressive issue and election campaigns at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels.

Over the course of two days, activists learned how to properly define campaign goals and targets, build effective teams, and recruit volunteers and leaders, among other strategies.

"The Camp Progress training provided UFCW activists with state-of-the-art campaigning skills that will help strengthen our union's effort to elect a progressive federal government next year," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "The training will also help UFCW members, staff, and leaders build more effective campaigns at the grassroots level, and I'd like to thank the Broadbent Institute for working with our union to bolster our organizing and campaign efforts," Brother Meinema adds.
