Britco Pork workers join the union – UFCW Local 1518

New Westminster, B.C. – December 15, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 1518 is proud to welcome over 250 workers at Britco Pork in Langley as the newest members of the Local Union. The British Columbia Labour Board certified the new Local 1518 bargaining unit after workers voted “YES” to the union.

The organizing drive took place over many months, and the members remained staunchly committed despite many challenges. In a secret ballot, workers voted to join Local 1518 – giving them a strong voice at the bargaining table and a fair grievance procedure.

UFCW Canada Local 1518 represents thousands of industrial food workers in British Columbia, including other members engaged in pork processing.

"The Britco Pork members demonstrated incredible power and resolve to join Local 1518," said President Ivan Limpright, President of UFCW Canada Local 1518. "We look forward to working with the members in getting a strong collective agreement."

Union representatives have already visited the Britco site and are building solid relationships with members. Bargaining is expected to begin in the New Year, following proposal meetings with the membership.
