2014 UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship Winner: Gurneet Chauhan, UFCW 1000AToronto – January 9, 2015 – Gurneet Chauhan is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2014. Currently attending York University, Gurneet is a proud UFCW Canada Local 1000A member who works as a cashier at Sheriff’s No Frills in Toronto.

"I am really excited – it means a lot to me because I work to pay my tuition," says Sister Chauhan. "The union is helping me with work, and now with my tuition – I am thankful for all of their efforts," she adds.

Gurneet was recently presented with the $1,000 union scholarship cheque by UFCW Canada Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer and Staff Representative Tony Agostini, who are pictured here with Sister Chauhan. 

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Roméo Mathieu.
