My webCampus Experience – Labour Studies Courses

My webCampus Experience – Labour Studies CoursesToronto – February 9, 2015 – UFCW Canada members across the country are raving about the union's groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, which offers free online courses to all UFCW Canada members, their families, and community partners.

Many UFCW Canada members take webCampus courses out of personal interest, while others see them as a way to develop their knowledge and professional skills.

The Labour Studies courses are particularly popular among webCampus participants. From learning a better understanding of the grievance and arbitration processes as well as more about the history of the labour movement in Canada, the Labour Studies courses help UFCW Canada members and their families learn more about what it means to belong to a union.

webCampus participants from across Canada had the following to say about their Labour Studies experiences:

Labour History

"The course was a real eye opener. I had some idea that gains made on behalf of labour came at a price for those who had the will to stand up for better working conditions. I did not know that many have given their lives to advance labour's cause. The course has led me to do further studies on Tommy Douglas. Thank you for a very interesting course."

Union Renewal

” As a 'new' union activist, this course was very insightful, and opened my eyes to the changing demographics of Canada. I know our Local is already moving in the right direction of this shift, but we still have a long way to go before we can truly satisfy the needs of the visible minority. I am happy to be a part of this shift."

Understanding Collective Bargaining

"This is the first time I have attended a collective bargaining course, and it has sure helped me better understand the steps need during the entire process."

– Mary Cotie, UFCW Canada Local 333 member

Steward Essentials

"I have been a store steward for almost two years and found this course quite insightful and gained further knowledge. How to properly ask and answer certain questions is always welcome advice. This course helps you learn how to put many different situations into a different perspective from many different points of view and will teach you to find the best option that is fair for all. Thank you. "

Preparing for Arbitration

"As a Shop Steward, I find this course very useful, I wish all Shop Stewards take this course. It actually walks you through what it takes to go through arbitration. I will certainly apply what I have learned day-to-day at work! Thank you."
