Workers at Herb & Spice join the union - UFCW 175

Ottawa – April 10, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 175 is proud to welcome workers at two Herb & Spice locations in Ottawa as the newest members of the Local Union. Employees at the specialty grocery and health food store wanted a number of improvements in their working conditions, which prompted them to contact the union.

"Legitimate health and safety concerns played a big part in why these workers wanted Union representation," explained Local 175 Organizer Ali Farman. "The workers were also looking to gain guaranteed wage increases, end favouritism and have seniority respected by the employer, and achieve better health and welfare benefits."

"Our union representatives are extremely knowledgeable about the retail grocery sector," explained UFCW Local 175 President Shawn Haggerty. "The new members at Herb and Spice are a great fit with the Union and I congratulate them on their courage and perseverance."

UFCW Local 175 & 633 represents more than 20,000 retail grocery workers in stores across Ontario.
