Members at Lawtons Drugs achieve first contract – UFCW 864

Halifax – May 5, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 864 members at the Lawtons Drugs store at Scotia Square in Halifax – the first-ever Lawtons Drugs store to be unionized – recently ratified their first collective agreement.

Lawtons is a division of Sobeys that operates a chain of over 80 drug stores and health care supply stores across Atlantic Canada.

Achievements in the first collective agreement include wage scale increases of 30 cents per hour and upwards during the first year of the contract. The new contract also provides an additional paid holiday, Heritage Day, for all bargaining unit members.

The Local will be back at the bargaining table in 10 months and is looking forward to fixing issues in the Scotia Square store. Negotiations will always will be about respect, fairness, and dignity in the workplace.
