UFCW Guide to Bargaining for Work-Family Issues

UFCW Canada Guide to Bargaining for Work-Family Issues

The UFCW Guide to Bargaining for Work-Family Issues has just been released. The guide was developed by the National Council Women’s Advisory Committee to help UFCW Canada activists and negotiating committee members strengthen the family friendly language in their collective bargaining agreements — to gain additional protections needed for a healthy work and life balance, and strong contract language that prioritizes the needs of modern workers and family providers.

The Guide is a collection of UFCW Canada Local Union collective agreement wording examples that clearly demonstrate that workers can make family friendly gains if they stick together and make work-family issues a priority.

"The best way for us as workers to achieve the protections we need for a healthy work and life balance is through collective action, and strong contract language that prioritizes our needs as modern workers and family," says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley.

"Work and family are no longer separate entities. Each has a profound impact on the other, and as Canada’s largest private-sector union we must lead the way in creating a better, fairer balance between the home and the workplace."

Copies of the UFCW Guide to Bargaining for Work-Family Issues are available from the National Office. The guide can also be downloaded for viewing and printing.
