UFCW Canada wins top ILCA Awards for union communications

Toronto – August 10, 2015 – UFCW Canada communications and media efforts have been recognized with seven awards, including best website, by the International Labour Communications Association (ILCA). The awards honour the best in print and multimedia communications by North American labour organizations, with thousands of entries from national and local unions across the continent.

UFCW Canada was recognized with two first-place ILCA 2015 Awards, in a total of seven awards of excellence for Canada’s most progressive union’s web, print, writing, illustration, and social media efforts.

UFCW Canada’s national website, www.ufcw.ca, was honoured with a first-place Best Internet Content award for National/International labour sites. The site received two additional awards for General Excellence, and for Design.

UFCW Canada’s print and graphic communications also received multiple awards for Visual Communications/Print, Internet & Illustration — a first-place nod for the poster “UFCW Pride UNION Pride”, and third-place honours for the poster “National Aboriginal History Month”.

UFCW Canada was also honoured in the category of Writing – Print and Internet / Best Analysis, with a second-place award for the original research and policy report, “The Great Canadian Rip-Off – An Economic Case for Restoring Full EI Special Benefits Access to SAWP Workers”.

Canada's leading private-sector union was also honoured by ILCA in the category of Social Media / National/International Unions, for the digital outreach efforts of Students Against Migrant Exploitation (S.A.M.E.) through its website www.thesame.ca, and Facebook site, facebook.com/samegroup.
