Alliston, Ont. – August 31, 2015 – UFCW educators from across Canada recently gathered in Alliston, Ontario for the UFCW Canada Educator's Conference to build upon our union's renowned education, training, and skills development programs for members.

Throughout the three-day summit, participants engaged in dynamic training on a wide range of topics, including seminars on effective social media strategies and exploring the latest research on adult learning.

In addition, participants learned how to quickly update online courses and ensure that participants share what they have learned with their friends, family, and co-workers. With the 2015 Federal Election now underway, political action was also at the top of the agenda.

Currently, more than 10,000 UFCW Canada members and their families benefit from hundreds of courses offered through our union's webCampus program – a free, online resource that allows UFCW Canada members and community partners to learn at their own pace through web-based courses that cover everything from job skills development to home decorating.

As well, ever year more than 12,000 UFCW Canada members and stewards are empowered through classroom-based training and courses delivered at Local Union stewards conferences and training centres across the country.

And UFCW Canada also offers 18 annual UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarships worth $1,000 each to active members and their family members for post-secondary study. The deadline to apply for this year's scholarship program is September 30, 2015.

"Our union strongly believes that knowledge is power, and that is why we offer the best and widest range of training and education courses of any union in Canada," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "Our goal is to empower UFCW Canada members as activists, and to support members' personal goals at home, at school, and in the community," Meinema adds.
