Workers at Parrheim Foods achieve new contract – UFCW 1400

Saskatoon, Sask. – October 1, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 1400 members working at Parrheim Foods in Saskatoon have recently ratified a new four-year collective agreement.

Parrheim Foods is an industry leader in the production of fractionated starch, fibre, and protein concentrates from beans, barley, and peas.

Under the new contract, wages will increase 2.75 percent retroactive for hours worked since the expiry of the previous agreement. Subsequent wage increases are 2.7 percent for years two, three and four. Nightshift premium has also been increased to $0.85 over the term of the collective agreement.

As per the new agreement, improvements have been made to joint labour management committee language. There has also been the addition of new apprenticeship language and improved job posting language as well as an improved grievance procedure. Bereavement has also been increased to five paid days following the death of a parent, up from the previous three days.

Furthermore, boot allowances have been increased to $165 over the term of the agreement. Employees who regularly work outside will be provided with an additional pair of boots annually.

The new contract also states that the employer is to pay for lost workplace injury time starting from the first day of the injury.
