Résidence Le Soleil Levant workers join the union – UFCW 1991P

Shawinigan, Que. – January 14, 2016 – Workers at the Résidence Le Soleil Levant retirement home in Shawinigan, Quebec are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 1991P after a majority of employees said "Yes!" to joining the union.

The local union applied for certification last fall and the bargaining unit was recently certified by Quebec’s Labour Relations Board. The thirty employees working at the retirement home decided to join the union in order to have a stronger collective voice in their workplace.

"By choosing UFCW, the Résidence Le Soleil Levant members now have the representation they need to improve their working conditions and have their demands taken seriously by their employer," says Mario Maisonneuve, President of UFCW Canada Local 1991P. "As this is now their union, we are very proud to welcome the Résidence Le Soleil Levant members and we cannot wait to work on their behalf," Brother Maisonneuve adds.
