Local 832 kicks-off 2012 United Way campaign with a plane pull

Activists from UFCW Canada Local 832 joined other members of the Winnipeg community to kick off the 2012 United Way campaign by pulling a plane. The plane pull has become an annual tradition in Winnipeg, with this year’s event representing the 9th time Winnipeggers have gathered at the airport to flex their muscles for a worthy cause.

Together, the determined group of activists and community members combined their efforts to pull two planes – a 727 and DC10 – across 20 feet of tarmac. In addition to demonstrating how strong community members can be when they work together to achieve a common goal, the plane pull also raised a significant amount of money for the United Way’s many important campaigns and programs.

As a result of the event’s tremendous success, the campaign has already raised 38% of its total fundraising goal for 2012.

Along with many of the UFCW Canada Local Unions across the country, Local 832 is a proud supporter of the United Way, and, this year, Local 832 President Jeff Traeger chaired the labour support committee, as he did for the 2011 campaign.
