Bio Biscuit workers join the union – UFCW 1991P

Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. – April 28, 2016 – Workers at the Bio Biscuit plant in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 1991P after a majority of employees said “Yes!” to joining the union.

The Bio Biscuit members produce biscuits and dry food for dogs and cats using a computer-generated oven baking process.

The Local submitted its application for certification to the Quebec Labour Relations Board in late March, and was declared the official bargaining agent for the unit in mid-April.

“The workers at Bio Biscuit have chosen to join an international union that is known for its expertise in representing workers in every sector of the food industry,” says   Mario Maisonneuve, president of UFCW Canada Local 1991P.

“We are very proud that they have selected Local 1991P as their voice in the workplace, and we are committed to advocating on their behalf to achieve better working conditions at Bio Biscuit,” Brother Maisonneuve adds .
