Olymel members achieve new deal – UFCW 1118

Red Deer, Alta. – May 26, 2016 – UFCW Canada Local 1118 members working at the Olymel plant in Red Deer, Alberta have recently ratified a new agreement that brings improvements to wages and benefits.

The Olymel facility in Red Deer doubles as both a distribution centre and a meat processing plant. UFCW Local 1118 members produce a wide range of fresh and frozen pork products, as well as bacon and processed poultry items.

The new contract includes a new, more flexible benefit plan that includes a health care spending account for paramedics, a prescription drug card for all employees and a significant reduction in the premiums paid by members.

In addition, members will also receive $1.80 per hour increase in wages over the life of the collective agreement. The new agreement also introduces a new defined contribution pension plan.

The collective runs for five years and will expire in 2021.
