Members at Hudson's Bay ratify new deal – UFCW 1518

Victoria, B.C. – June 17, 2016 – UFCW Canada Local 1518 members working at the Hudson's Bay store in Victoria, British Columbia have recently achieved a new collective agreement that brings improvements to wages, contract language, and more.

As one of the oldest retailers in Canada, Hudson's Bay is a staple in many communities across the country.

The new four-year agreement contains several provisions that aim to improve working conditions for UFCW Canada Local 1518 members working at the department store.

"This is a strong contract for all members at the Hudson’s Bay in Victoria,” says UFCW Canada Local 1518 President Ivan Limpright. "The members will benefit from wage increases and improved contract language, among other gains,” he adds.

Key highlights of the contract include wage increases, a new night shift premium, and the ability to claim statutory holidays and Sunday work by seniority. Members will also be able to decline Sunday hours based on seniority.  

The bargaining committee included Joan Dennison, Lynne Stevenson, union representative Kerry Brewster, and UFCW Canada Local 1518 Director Kim Balmer.
