New webCampus courses for November

Toronto – October 21, 2016 – UFCW Canada’s groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, is launching two new courses for the month of November.

The free online courses are being offered in English from October 31 to November 25, and are available to all UFCW Canada members and their families, as well as our community partners.

The new courses are described as follows:

Culinary Skills: Introduction to the Industry – English

This course examines what it takes to work in the culinary industry. Participants will explore the many roles, expectations, and skills that are common to the industry, and will learn what it is like to work in a restaurant kitchen. The course will also help you become better in your own kitchen.

Restoring Human Dignity: The Aboriginal Legacy – English

There are many stories that Canadians do not regularly learn in school. Our history is littered with events that are either deliberately overlooked, or forgotten due to our own internal biases. And this is particularly true when it comes to the history of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples. For over a century, Aboriginal children in Canada were taken from their homes and communities and placed in residential schools. Separated from their families and prohibited from speaking their native languages, the vast majority of residential school survivors experienced neglect and suffering. And the impacts of sexual, mental, and physical abuse, shame, and deprivation endured at residential schools continue to affect generations of survivors and their families today.

Registration for the “Culinary Skills: Introduction to the Industry” and “Restoring Human Dignity: The Aboriginal Legacy” courses is now open. To register for these free online courses, and to find out more about the webCampus program, visit the webCampus website.
