Quispamsis, N.B. – December 2, 2016 – Matthew Phillips is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2016.

Currently enrolled in the Engineering program at the University of New Brunswick Saint John, Matthew is a proud UFCW Canada Local 1288P member who works at Atlantic Superstore.

Brother Phillips had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

“The UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship will be of great assistance in helping me achieve my educational goals. With the rising cost of tuition and textbooks, it is becoming increasingly difficult to pay for university with a part-time job. This scholarship provides me with the additional funding that I need to complete my university degree, and it will allow me to reach my personal goal of becoming an engineer. I would like to thank UFCW Canada for helping me pay for my education and avoid going into debt.”

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.

The deadline to apply for the 2017 UFCW Canada - BDM Scholarship is September 30, 2017. To find out more about this renowned union scholarship, or to apply online, click here.
