UFCW Canada wins big at 2016 ILCA Awards

Toronto – December 21, 2016 – UFCW Canada's leading communications efforts were recently celebrated at the 2016 International Labour Communications Association (ILCA) Awards. Held annually, the ILCA Awards honour the best print and multimedia communications by North American labour organizations, with thousands of entries from national and local unions across the continent.

Continuing a longstanding tradition of excellence at the ILCA Awards, UFCW Canada was recognized for its cutting-edge communications work with seven awards, including four first-place awards, acknowledging our union’s outstanding web, print, writing, illustration, and social media efforts.

Leading the pack, UFCW Canada's ground-breaking report, The Status of Migrant Workers in Canada 2015, was honoured with two first-place awards for “Best Single Issue Publication and Best Design.” As well, UFCW Canada’s social media efforts throughout the 2015 Federal Election campaign received honours for “Best Persuasive Message” in the Political Action/Organizing Campaign category. The union's Labour Day 2015 poster, meanwhile, received an award for “Best Illustration”in the Visual Communications category.

Three additional ILCA Awards were awarded to UFCW Canada, including a second-place “General Excellence” award in the category of Best Electronic Publication for UFCW Canada's twice-weekly DIRECTIONS e-newsletter. Canada’s leading union also received two third-place awards for “Best Use of Social Media” and “Best Editorial/Column” for our commentary on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
