Flemingdon health care workers join the union - UFCW 175

Flemingdon health care workers join the union - UFCW 175Toronto – April 5, 2017 – Workers at the Flemingdon Health Centre in Toronto are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 175 after voting “YES” to join the union.

The new members cited wages, job security, benefits and favouritism as their reasons for contacting the union. “Contract employees worked for years with no permanent positions,” said union organizer Amy Tran.  “Some employees were not receiving wage increases, benefits had been clawed back, and there was favouritism going on in this workplace.”

Flemingdon is a community health centre that provides a range of health related services including primary health care, psychological and nutritional counselling, and support programs and initiatives for seniors, women, youth and newcomers.

UFCW Canada Local 175 members at Flemingdon are employed as social workers, community health care workers, intake workers, childminders, registered dieticians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, chiropodists, outreach workers, medical receptionists and IT support personnel.
