Workers at Garda Security ratify new agreement – UFCW 175

Thunder Bay, Ont. – May 11, 2017 – UFCW Canada Local 175 members working at Garda Security in Thunder Bay, Ontario have achieved a new collective agreement. 

As part of the new contract, members will receive both lump sum payments and rate increases over the term of the agreement. This includes rate increases totalling 5.75 percent; Volume, Risk, Stress, Consequences (VRSC) and Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) premiums equivalent to $1.10 per hour added to the existing basic rates of pay; and lump sums totalling $1,400 for full-time workers and $700 for part-time members.

In addition, the contract now includes strong language prohibiting any harassment or bullying in the workplace.  

Effective April 1, 2018, the Garda members will also benefit from having a Short Term Disability Plan added to their health and welfare coverage. As well, the employer will now contribute $50 toward the cost of the required CATSA medical examination for employees.
