UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Christine Baskin, UFCW 102Niagara Falls, Ont. – May 27, 2017 – Christine Baskin is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2016.

Currently completing the Social Service Worker Program at Niagara College Canada, Christine is a proud UFCW Canada Local 102 member who works at the Embassy Suites hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Sister Baskin had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

“Thank you so much for awarding me the UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship. Going back to school has been a challenging but rewarding process. Originally I could not afford to go to college out of high school, so I had to work for several years to get to this point. I am now in my second year in the Social Service Worker Program, and I love it! The future job prospects are promising and I will be working in a field where I get to help people on a daily basis. So far I have covered most of my school and living expenses on my own, as OSAP gave me very little assistance. This scholarship will help ease the financial burden that I have been carrying, and it will motivate me to continue pursuing my education. Thanks again UFCW Canada!”

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM Scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Roméo Mathieu.

The deadline to apply for the 2017 UFCW Canada - BDM Scholarship is September 30, 2017. To find out more about this renowned union scholarship, or to apply online, click here.
