Members at Canadian Tire win big in bargaining – UFCW 1518

Prince George, B.C. –  May 31, 2017 – UFCW Canada Local 1518 members working at the first and only unionized Canadian Tire store in British Columbia have recently achieved a new contract that brings wage increases and more.

Workers at the automotive and home improvement store were able to achieve wage improvements of 12.5 percent over five years, with the top rate now reaching $20.21 per hour in the final year of the agreement. The new contract also includes a $3 per hour increase in shift premiums for supervisors and a $2 per hour increase in shift premiums for key holders.

In addition, the employer contribution to the health and welfare plan has increased to 70 percent, and now includes coverage for eye glasses.

Members at the Prince George Canadian Tire have been a part of Canada's leading union for retail workers since 1983 and enjoy some of the highest wages available in the retail sector.
