Workers at the Broadbent Institute join the union – UFCW 1006A

Ottawa and Toronto – June 17, 2017 – Workers at the Broadbent Institute in Ottawa and Toronto are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 1006A after recently voting to join the union.

The Broadbent Institute employees work in fundraising, communications, policy analysis, and advocacy for Canada’s leading progressive think tank and training institute.

They joined the union to obtain strong representation on the job and the protection of a collective agreement. The workers were also attracted to UFCW Canada because our union represents professional and office employees at other progressive organizations, including the federal New Democratic Party (NDP).

“Workers at the Broadbent Institute play a vital role in promoting democracy, equality, and fairness in our society, and we are very proud to welcome them to the UFCW family,” says Wayne Hanley, the President of UFCW Canada Local 1006A. “Congratulations on achieving union representation,” he adds.
