UFCW 1518 pledges $100,000 to help B.C. wildfire relief

UFCW 1518 pledges $100,000 to help B.C. wildfire reliefNew Westminster, B.C. – July 29, 2017 – UFCW Canada Local 1518 has pledged $100,000 to assist with British Columbia’s wildfire relief efforts.

To date, over 44,000 people have been displaced by the wildfires – including hundreds of UFCW Local 1518 members – during one of the most dangerous wildfire seasons in B.C.’s history.

"This is devastating for UFCW 1518 members and all British Columbians who live in communities affected by wildfires," says UFCW Local 1518 President Ivan Limpright.

"At least one 1518 member has lost their home and hundreds of others were evacuated. It's critical that we support them in this very difficult time. Unions have always helped in times of crisis – it's what we do. And with a natural disaster like this, everyone has to do their part. It's that simple," Brother Limpright adds.

As part of the Local Union’s wildfire relief support, UFCW 1518 members who have been evacuated due to wildfires can fill out an online form to apply for financial support.
