UFCW Canada announces BDM Scholarship Contest Winner: Rajinder Randhawa

Surrey, B.C. – December 13, 2012 – UFCW Canada is happy to announce that Rajinder Randhawa is the winner of the 2012 BDM union scholarship contest. Sister Randhawa is a proud member of UFCW Canada Local 1518 who works at Sunrise Poultry in Surrey, B.C.

Pictured receiving her prize from Chief Steward Kevin Sparkes, Rajinder is now the owner a new iPad after going above and beyond to spread the word about the 18 $1,000 union scholarships available to all UFCW Canada members and families.

The BDM Scholarship Contest was launched to further raise awareness about the union’s firm commitment to assisting members with the ever-increasing cost of post-secondary education.

“UFCW Canada is fully committed to supporting members and their families in efforts to advance their lives through collective bargaining, the advancement of human rights, and the pursuit of education and lifelong learning,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley.

“Thanks to the tremendous success of the contest, a record number of members and their families applied for the scholarship, and going forward we will continue to explore new ways to encourage our members to share knowledge of this outstanding resource with others.”
