UFCW and allies launch powerful new Pharmacare video

UFCW and allies launch powerful new Pharmacare videoOttawa – November 29, 2017 – A national Pharmacare campaign backed by UFCW Canada and other CLC affiliates has launched a powerful new video in the call for a national universal prescription medication program. The video highlights the painful and sometimes tragic choices faced by millions of Canadian who can’t afford to buy prescription drugs.

“No one in Canada should have to make a choice between paying for a prescription or putting food on the family table,” says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “We are the only developed country in the world with a universal Medicare program that doesn’t include a national pharmacare plan. That has to change, because right now millions of Canadians are at risk because they can’t pay for their medications.”

A recent report indicates that combined, the federal and provincial governments would save about $11 billion a year by replacing a patchwork of drug subsidy programs with a national universal Pharmacare program.
