UFCW Locals win big at 2018 Canadian Labour Media awards

2018 CALM award for Best Photograph.

Quebec City – May 31, 2018 – UFCW Canada Local Unions earned three prestigious awards at this year’s Canadian Association of Labour Media (CALM) Awards, in recognition of our union's long-established role as a leading communicator within the Canadian labour movement.

UFCW Canada Local 1518 won the award for Excellence in Print Writing for its feature story entitled “Dangerous Homes: Exploring Violence in Homecare Work.” Written by UFCW 1518 Communications Assistant Diana Perez, the article examines the unique occupational health and safety hazards experienced by workers in the community health sector.

UFCW Canada Local 832, meanwhile, won this year’s CALM award for Best Photograph. Taken in the fall of 2017, the award-winning picture captures UFCW 832 members rallying with the Canadian Federation of Students at the Manitoba legislature to protest tuition fee hikes.

Finally, UFCW Canada Local 1006A took home the prize for Best Website Content for its recently redesigned webpage and compelling, timely website content.
