Activists build resolve at UFCW 1400 Stewards Conference

Moose Jaw, Sask. – September 27, 2018 –  UFCW Canada Local 1400 stewards from across Saskatchewan recently gathered in Moose Jaw to sharpen their activist skills and strengthen their network as frontline UFCW workplace advocates.

The UFCW Canada Local 1400 8th Biennial Shop Steward Conference, September 21-23,  brought together more than 100 shop stewards, activists and executive board members for the three-day conference.

 “There is no greater way to build workplace fairness than a union, and your tremendous work as stewards makes that happen every day,” said Local 1400 President Norm Neault, as he welcomed the gathering. “Thank you for your hard work because it makes such a difference to the membership and to your Local.”

The conference focused on building member engagement, empowerment and union solidarity. Throughout the workshops and presentations, the stewards and presenters discussed and developed strategies to energize more workplace activists. “The goal was to equip our stewards with new ways to make meaningful connections with their co-workers,” said Local 1400 secretary-treasurer Lucia Flack Figueiredo, “and to create a larger community of Local 1400 activists available to support each other’s activism.”
