2012 BDM Scholarships Winner: Osman Panameno Jr., Local 1118

Red Deer, Alta. – January 15, 2013 – Osman Panameno Jr. is one of 18 Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) Scholarships winners for 2012. Osman is the son of Osman Panameno Sr., who has been a member of UFCW Canada Local 1118 at the Olymel (and earlier, Fletcher's) pork processing plant in Red Deer, Alberta for more than 25 years.

"I'm so grateful and want to thank UFCW Canada for this scholarship," says Osman Jr., who is currently enrolled in his second year of undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary, with a focus on political science and economics. "The scholarship will of great assistance in achieving my ambition as a student and a community member and I will use the funds to further dedicate my energies to studying and attaining my goals."

Osman was recently presented his BDM scholarship by Local 1118 President Albert Johnson (pictured, on right), who was pleased to make the award on behalf of the UFCW Canada National Council.

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 annual BDM scholarships of $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post secondary study.
