BDM Scholarship relieves financial stress of UFCW 247 member

Kelowna, B.C. – January 11, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 247 member Jorden Swetlikoe is one of eighteen winners of the UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship.

Jorden is a retail food member who works at a Real Canadian Superstore in West Kelowna, B.C. Currently completing his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus, Brother Swetlikoe had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

“School is a continual challenge that pushes me to my limits and provides me with the skills needed to build my potential as a student. Though my journey through post-secondary education has been enlightening, it brings with it a multitude of stressors. While I have managed my expenses appropriately throughout my education, my final year of studies has proven to be the most difficult in maintaining this trend. This scholarship will provide me with sufficient funds to finish my final year without the stress that comes with limited funds. I can eliminate the persistent worry that ruminates in my mind and focus purely on my studies. This scholarship will enable me to strive for greatness and enjoy the remainder of my bachelor’s degree. Following the completion of my degree, I want to gain experience in my community in the field of psychology. My passion is understanding the nature of human behaviour in both myself and others. This allows me to gain insight into the human character and apply what I’ve learned to promote the wellbeing of those around me. Thank you, UFCW Canada, for this amazing opportunity to achieve my goals and flourish as an individual.”

The UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship offers a total of $18,000 in scholarships to UFCW Canada members and their families, and is one of more than 25 union scholarships available to members and their families every year, totaling more than $300,000.

The deadline to apply for the BDM scholarship for 2019 is September 30.
