UFCW 1006A members at Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer end strike

Cornwall, Ont. – February 20, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 1006A members working at Baxtrom's Your Independent Grocer (YIG) in Cornwall, Ontario have voted to end a 12-week labour dispute by accepting the latest company offer, which includes gains for members.

Improvements over the previous employer offer include an immediate 6 percent increase for top rate part-time workers. The contract term was also shortened from six to three years, meaning the food retail members will be able to negotiate further improvements in 18 months.

"The Baxtrom’s members have shown incredible courage and solidarity over three cold winter months in their fight for fairness,” says Roland Lapins, Regional Director of UFCW Canada Local 1006A. "The members play a valuable role in making Loblaw the multi-billion-dollar success it is today. We look forward to getting back to the negotiating table in 2020.”
