2012 BDM Scholarship Winner: Andre Cortes, Local 247
Surrey, B.C. – January 26, 2013 – Andre Cortes is one of 18 Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) Scholarships winners for 2012. Andre is the son of UFCW Canada Local 247 member Gladys Moreno who works at the Real Canadian Superstore in Delta, British Columbia.
Andre was recently presented his BDM scholarship by Local 247 union representative Tima Burgess (pictured left with Andre and Sister Moreno), who was pleased to make the award on behalf of the UFCW Canada National Council.
Andre is currently studying at Douglas College in the second year of Computer Science program with the goal of attending the British Columbia Institute of Technology after earning his diploma.
Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 annual BDM scholarships of $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post secondary study.
