Food retail members at Havelock Foodland build a better life – UFCW 175

Havelock, Ont. – April 23, 2019 – UFCW Local 175 members working at Foodland in Havelock, Ontario have achieved a new union contract that provides wage increases, better benefits, and improved bereavement language.

The new collective agreement includes a new “minimum wage plus” scale for all employees to ensure that wage rates stay ahead of minimum wage and that employees receive any future increases applied to minimum wage as well. Employees at the full-time top rate will see raises totalling 95 cents per hour over the term of the contract. Part-time employees at the top rate will receive a total of 90 cents per hour over the three-year term. The union negotiating committee also achieved language providing for union orientation to be completed on paid time.

A new vision care benefit provides $200 per 24-month period, and the uniform pants allowance increases to $60 per year. Bereavement language now includes a celebration of life as a qualifying day that can be taken at a later date.

The union negotiating committee consisted of UFCW 175 members Michele Ellis and Maureen Vincent and Union Representative Paul Hardwick. To read more about the new union contract at the Havelock Foodland, click here.
