Deadline to apply for $8,000 union scholarship is fast approaching

Washington, D.C. – April 26, 2019 – The deadline to apply for the 2019 UFCW Charity Foundation Scholarship, worth up to $8,000, is May 12, 2019.

Every year, the UFCW Charity Foundation awards several scholarships of up to $8,000 each to UFCW members or their unmarried dependents to cover post-secondary tuition fees over a period of four years.

Every year, one scholarship is awarded to a UFCW Canada member. Last year’s Canadian winner was Erin McDonagh, daughter of Mark McDonagh, a proud UFCW Local 1518 member who works at Save-On-Foods in Nanaimo, B.C.

The scholarships are available to any UFCW member who has been active since January 1, 2018. The children or dependents of active members are also eligible to apply if they are unmarried and under the age of 20 on May 31, 2019. Winners will be selected based on scholastic achievements, community involvement, and an essay that shows an understanding of the principles of the labour movement.

The deadline to apply for this year’s UFCW Charity Foundation Scholarship is May 12, 2019.
