Winnipeg – June 12, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 832 activists recently kicked off the 2019 Pride season in Manitoba, marching loud and proud at the 32nd annual Pride parade in Winnipeg.

At the parade, Local 832 activists joined thousands of participants who came out on June 2 to participate in Pride celebrations throughout the city’s core. The event began with a rally at the Manitoba legislature, where activists gathered to get pumped for the day’s activities.

UFCW 832 members, officers, and staff then marched through the streets of downtown Winnipeg, handing out UFCW 832 Pride flags to onlookers while DJ Just Ice worked the crowd on the Local’s Winnipeg General Strike streetcar float.

Some of the notable attendees at this year’s event included Daniel Blaikie, Member of Parliament of Elmwood-Transcona; Kevin Rebeck, President of the Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL); and members of the Fight for $15 and Fairness Manitobacampaign. Once again, the parade served as the culmination of the city’s week-long Pride festivities, which began on May 24.

“Our union is a leader in advocating for equality and inclusivity for all members, and we strive to promote a society in which our diverse communities can live as one without fear of harassment and repression,” says Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Canada Local 832. “This year’s Pride parade was another great success, and we are thrilled that so many members came out to celebrate and send a message that UFCW supports all workers, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity,” he adds.

UFCW Canada Local 832 is Manitoba’s largest private sector union, representing over 18,000 members in a wide variety of industries, including the retail food, health care, food processing, security, industrial, textile, and transportations sectors.
