Health care members at Vera Davis Community Care win gains – UFCW 175

Bolton, Ont. – September 17, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 175 members working at Vera Davis Community Care in Bolton, Ontario have achieved a new union contract that provides wage increases and new job positions.

During negotiations, the employer brought several concessions to the table, which made this round of bargaining extremely difficult and resulted in the parties meeting in conciliation.

Under the newly ratified contract, wages across all job classifications will increase by 1 percent retroactive to December 1, 2017, and 1.75 percent retroactive to December 1, 2018. This year, employees will see a raise of 1.75 percent, followed by another raise of 1.75 percent in year four of the agreement.

Furthermore, the union and the employer will meet to discuss wage scales for the new job positions entitled Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Specialist and Behavioural Supports Ontario Nurse (BSON).

The bargaining unit at Vera Davis Community Care Centre is comprised of 27 full-time and 50 part-time employees. To read more about the new union contract at Vera Davis, click here.
