Warehouse workers at Ryder Canada join the union – UFCW 1006A

Vaughan, Ont. – November 13, 2019 – Workers at Ryder Truck Rental Canada are the newest members of UFCW Local 1006A after recently voting to join the union. The 60 warehouse workers joined UFCW 1006A to gain a voice on the job and achieve fairness in the workplace.
“Winning union representation is the first step to improving your working conditions,” says UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “To the workers at Ryder, we are proud to welcome you. I encourage you to stay united so we can work together to help you change your livelihood and your workplace for the better,” he adds.

The new members work in logistics at the Ryder Canada warehouse. They perform a variety of duties, including running machines, loading and unloading trucks, and moving product around with forklifts and handpicks. Members also work as material handlers and team leads and coordinate customer logistics.

“This was a worker-driven campaign and we are proud of the workers for their leadership, courage, and solidarity through this whole process,” says Lesley Prince, Organizing Coordinator for UFCW 1006A.
