Build your skills with new webCampus courses for late winter 2020
Toronto – February 25, 2020 – UFCW Canada's ground-breaking online education program, webCampus, is launching three new courses for late winter that can help you better understand and deal with health and safety hazards and learn more about the importance of buying Canadian-made products.
The free online courses are being offered in English and are available to all UFCW Canada members and their family members, as well as our community partners. The new courses are described as follows:
Biological Hazards (Health & Safety)
Biological hazards affect numerous occupations and have one defining characteristic: the ability to reproduce. This course will explore the immune system response to biological hazards, possible routes of entry and transmission, and allergic reactions and sensitizations to these hazards to prepare workers to safety deal with them.
Infectious Diseases (Health & Safety)
Infectious diseases are caused by tiny microorganisms that are invisible to the eye and exist in the soil, atmosphere, and water, as well as on or inside animals, plants, and foodstuffs. This course examines the different types of harmful organisms, how they enter our bodies, the effects that they have on us, and how we can stop them.
Unions and the Global Economy (Labour Studies)
Buying made-in-Canada products matters to Canadians. This course explains why it is so important to support Canadian-made products and explores globalization and its effects on workers in Canada. The course also examines corporations, free trade, and sweatshops, and looks at the winners and losers of privatization and de-regulation.
