National President meets Local 1118 Executive Board in Red Deer

Red Deer, Alta. – February 21, 2013 – The weather was frigid but the welcome was warm as National President Wayne Hanley recently joined with members of the UFCW Canada Local 1118 Executive Board for a working session in Red Deer.

Brother Hanley also provided the activists with an overview to preparing for the 7th Regular UFCW International Convention to be held this coming August in Chicago.

Having seen some of the members at the National Council Convention in Toronto, Brother Hanley said “it was a real pleasure to return the visit and catch up where we left off just a few months ago.”

The Red Deer gathering was smaller, but much of the agenda was the same — as the National President and the Executive Board members, led by Local 1118 President Albert Johnson, discussed building an activist network; organizing strategies and the growth agenda; and fighting back with political and community action against the Right to Work for Less corporate agenda.

"It was a privilege to spend some time in Red Deer with sisters and brothers who are so committed to their fellow members, to their Local, and to our great union," said the National President.

"The members of the Executive Board were honoured and appreciative that Brother Hanley was able to join us here in Red Deer," said Local 1118 President Johnson, "as we look ahead to growing even stronger as a voice for the members, and in our community."
