Waste management members at NexCycle negotiate gains – UFCW 1006A
Brampton, Ont. – August 26, 2020 – Increased job security and wage increases are among the contract gains achieved by UFCW Local 1006A members working at NexCycle Plastics in Brampton.
“Everyone is happy with the one-year contract,” says Harry Balraj, a member of the bargaining committee. "We understand the situation. We got a wage increase during a difficult time with COVID-19."
The new collective agreement runs until early 2021 and covers 60 bargaining unit members.
“I want to commend our negotiating committee for their hard work on behalf of the membership during this pandemic, and their success in achieving a fair union contract,” says UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “We also want to recognize the membership for their unity and support throughout this process — when we work together, we can make fairness happen,” he adds.
Negotiations were led by UFCW 1006A Union Representative Joe Blythe, with support from Union Representatives Rick Del Fiacco and Gord Jackson and members Harry Balraj, Sarbjit Mangat, and Harcharan Garcha.
The NexCycle members work as production/machine operators and warehouse employees at the waste management company.
"It felt good to be part to be of the negotiating process,” says Balraj.
Negotiations were conducted with physical distancing guidelines and masks protocols were also followed. To read more about the new union contract at NexCycle, click here.
